Bečić: The election of Constitutional Court judges confirms Montenegro's capacity to carry out the most demanding reforms

Today’s election of two missing Constitutional Court judges, with broad consensus in the Parliament of Montenegro, confirms that Montenegro is ready to make the toughest decisions in the interest of the rule of law and European future. A fully functional Constitutional Court is one of the key prerequisites for fulfilling the final criteria from Chapter 23 and must remain a bastion of justice, fairness, and independence. Following constitutional amendments that stripped members of the government of immunity and the Judicial Council of government members, today’s vote demonstrates that Montenegro has the capacity to implement the most demanding reforms and complete its institutions. Our clear goal remains: closing all negotiation chapters by the end of this year and Montenegro’s membership in the European Union by 2028.
