Spajić Leads Team for Accelerated Development of Airports: Urgent Preparation of Master Plan and Adaptation by 2027

The Government of Montenegro will form a Inter-Agency Coordination Body for the development and capacity increase of Podgorica and Tivat airports by the start of the next summer season, decided at an operational meeting of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić with representatives of relevant ministries and institutions. The head of this body will be Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, while members will include officials from the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Defense, and Montenegro Airports. Key infrastructure projects at Podgorica Airport include building a new terminal, reconstruction and expansion of the platform, as well as reconstruction and extension of the runway to enable the airport to handle wide-body aircraft, as Montenegro must be connected to the rest of the world with direct transoceanic flights. Additionally, the Master Plan is a necessary formal condition for applying for and drawing EU funds and favorable loans from international financial institutions. Meanwhile, a specialized team led by the Prime Minister will be tasked with accelerating the preparation and implementation of urgent projects and ensuring the timely removal of administrative, planning, property-legal, financial, and other obstacles within the scope of legal authority. The Government of Montenegro will instruct the heads of Montenegro Airports to, in cooperation with the members of the Coordination Body, promptly undertake priority activities necessary to maintain operational functionality and increase the capacity of Podgorica and Tivat airports until a new Master Plan is adopted.
