Ibrahimović – Wang Yi: Montenegro committed to improving relations with China, with tangible benefits for Montenegrin citizens

Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, hosted Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, during his two-day official visit to Montenegro—the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister since Montenegro regained independence. “Montenegro is interested in partnerships that bring quality investment, sustainable infrastructure and opportunities for the development of the domestic economy, while fully respecting our development priorities and European standards,” Ibrahimović said. Wang Yi noted that the two countries had created good conditions for further improving relations, stressing that despite differences in geographical distance and size, they could jointly work to strengthen cooperation and build relations based on mutual respect. Referring to projects that have marked bilateral cooperation, Ibrahimović highlighted the first section of the Bar–Boljare highway, Smokovac–Mateševo, the engagement of a Chinese consortium on the Mateševo–Andrijevica section, and the reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara Bridge with Chinese donor support. The talks also emphasized that Montenegro’s EU membership would create additional opportunities for cooperation. The Chinese side expressed confidence that, as an EU member, Montenegro would be an even more stable and credible partner for China, contributing to the further development of relations and cooperation between China and the European Union. Ibrahimović said Montenegro would continue developing relations with China on the basis of mutual respect, open dialogue and concrete interests, with clearly defined priorities and full commitment to its European path.
