Open Registration for Funding
The foundation supports initiatives that are of strategic importance to the open information society, particularly for the development and popularization of open standards and (network-oriented) open source technology. This ranges from software development, standardization work, and educational material development to security tools and support for digital civil rights activities. Deadlines are announced on the website, and project applications must be submitted by that date before 12:00 PM CET. An important requirement is that any software resulting from a project must be made available under an approved open source license (GPL, BSD, Apache, etc.). Projects requiring significantly more budget than available through NLnet's open registration are advised to make an appointment with one of our staff to discuss possibilities. Currently, several dozen projects and organizations receive financial support, including the research lab NLnet Labs, Unhosted, Lantern Project, Calligra Suite, WebODF, AbiWord, Serval, Jitsi, 0cpm, and Internet Society.
