Symposium Held in Athens
The symposium "The European Dimension in Teaching History in National Education Systems" was held in Athens on the 19th, organized by the Observatory for History Teaching in Europe (OHTE) of the Council of Europe. The host was the National Archives of Greece, which gathered decision-makers, historians, and history teachers from European countries. Representatives from France, Slovakia, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Armenia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Montenegro presented analyses of the European dimension in history curricula in primary and secondary schools in their countries. History teacher Jelena Vlaović presented the European dimension in the history curricula of the Montenegrin education system, viewing Europe from both the perspective of the historical subject and the pedagogical framework. She emphasized the importance of critical thinking and multiperspectivity. In addition to the European dimension in history curricula, the symposium also discussed the role of history education in strengthening democratic processes.
