Established Increased Population of Scaphoideus titanus Vectors in Šušunja - Zeta

With the exception of the Šušunja site, where a total of 42 adult specimens were caught, a lower population density has been recorded in other locations in Montenegro. Based on the biology of this species, after initial capture of adults in early July, a population increase has traditionally been observed during the second half of July and the first half of August. Therefore, if vineyard owners have not yet performed chemical control of the vector based on previous recommendations or have done so only once, they can still repeat a chemical treatment to prevent population growth. This is especially relevant in the Zeta area, where the presence of FD phytoplasma has been confirmed and a designated zone has been established. Suitable preparations include those based on flupiradifurone + deltamethrin (SIVANTO ENERGY), acetamiprid (CARNADINE, MOSPILAN), lambda-cyhalothrin (KAISO), etofenprox (TREBON), tau-fluvalinate (MAVRIK SMART), and esfenvalerate (SUMI ALPHA 5EW). Additionally, mandatory measures include inspecting vineyards for symptoms of infection during the growing season, destroying natural reservoirs of phytoplasma in the immediate and wider environment of the vineyard (such as wild vines, Clematis vitalba, Alnus spp., Ailanthus altissima), which are often found around vineyards, abandoned, or neglected vineyards (especially wild vines and wild grapes). We also recommend that all producers immediately install yellow sticky traps in their vineyards and monitor for the presence (capture) of adult Scaphoideus titanus in the upcoming period to assess the situation.
