Police will start the campaign 'Safe Driving – Safe Vacation' tomorrow, which will last until the end of the summer tourist season; flyers with useful information for tourists

For the needs of the campaign, the Sector for General Police Responsibilities – the Community Police Prevention and Operations Unit has produced and printed 440,000 flyers in three languages – Montenegrin, English, and Albanian. Through educational and preventive flyers, the Police Department, besides welcoming, also points out traffic safety risks to all tourists coming to Montenegro, and calls on road users to obey legal regulations, take care of personal safety, the safety of their families, and other participants in traffic. The flyers also highlight and print important phone numbers available to tourists so they can contact relevant services if needed. The 'Safe Driving – Safe Vacation' campaign is conducted because the police, during the summer tourist season, traditionally expects a large number of tourists arriving in Montenegro by motor vehicles, which leads to traffic jams on roads leading from border crossings to tourist destinations in the north and especially to the Montenegrin coast. The significant increase in the number of participants in traffic, who use an already burdened road infrastructure, along with irresponsibility, lack of discipline, and driver fatigue, causes traffic accidents with severe consequences, including serious injuries and fatalities, as well as multi-hour traffic delays. The most common causes of traffic accidents are failure to respect speed limits, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, illegal overtaking, using mobile phones while driving, and driver fatigue.
