Special Monitoring of Candidatus Phytoplasma vitis (Flavescence dorée) and Vector Scaphoideus titanus Surveillance
In July 2026, inspections and replacement of yellow sticky traps were carried out at locations monitoring the presence and population dynamics of the grapevine leafhopper Scaphoideus titanus in Montenegro. Based on the biology of the species, after initial captures in early July, a population increase has historically been observed in the second half of July and the first half of August. Therefore, if vineyard owners have not yet sprayed or have done so only once, they can still perform a chemical treatment in the shortest possible time to prevent population growth, especially in the designated area of Zeta municipality, while respecting pre-harvest intervals and the permitted number of treatments, and only on varieties not in the harvest phase (for some table grape varieties, harvest has already begun or is ongoing). Suitable products include those based on flupiradifurone + deltamethrin (SIVANTO ENERGY), acetamiprid (CARNADINE, MOSPILAN), lambda-cyhalothrin (KAISO), etofenprox (TREBON), tau-fluvalinate (MAVRIK SMART), esfenvalerate (SUMI ALPHA 5EW). We recommend all producers to immediately install yellow sticky traps in their vineyards if not already done and to monitor for the appearance (capture) of adult S. titanus. All samples are labeled (coded) and sent to the Institute for Pesticides and Environmental Protection in Zemun (Belgrade, Serbia), where laboratory analyses for the presence of Flavescence dorée phytoplasma will be conducted.
