Customs Administration Begins Implementation of EU AES and ICS2 Systems: Another Step Towards a Customs and Digital Environment of the European Union

In 2023, the Customs Administration held an introductory meeting regarding the start of the Implementation Project for the Automated Export System (AES) and Import Control System 2 (ICS2), marking the beginning of another important project aimed at aligning Montenegro's customs information system with European Union standards. The implementation of AES and ICS2 represents a significant step in modernizing customs operations and fulfilling obligations related to EU accession. Throughout the year, the Customs Administration continued intensive activities on developing and implementing information systems necessary for Montenegro's functioning within the EU customs union. This project is carried out in cooperation with long-term partners and contractors providing expert and technical support in the digital transformation of customs services. ICS2 is an EU import control system that includes data on the safety and security of goods submitted by economic operators via entry summaries, while AES enables electronic submission and processing of export declarations and accompanying documents for goods leaving the customs territory. The Customs Administration remains committed to activities aimed at aligning with EU legal frameworks and improving the digitalization of customs procedures, with the goal of providing more efficient, secure, and quality services for businesses and citizens.
