Government of Montenegro and EBRD Launch a €30 Million Investment for Safer and Modernized Roads

Montenegro and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed today a loan agreement worth €30 million to finance the implementation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) on Montenegro's national road network. The funds will support one of the most significant projects to modernize traffic infrastructure in Montenegro, enhancing road safety, traffic management efficiency, and digital transformation of the transport system. The project includes establishing advanced traffic management systems, collecting and processing traffic and meteorological data, managing tunnels, informing road users via traffic signals, incident and hazardous material detection, and setting up the National Traffic Management Center and the National Traffic Data Center. Implementing intelligent transportation systems is a key step in modernizing the road infrastructure and aligns with the Montenegrin government's strategic goal to improve connectivity within the country, with neighboring states, and the European Union, in accordance with the EU's Western Balkans Economic and Investment Plan.
