Ibrahimović: Global Alliance a Unique Platform to Strengthen the International Human Rights System

The Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, participated today in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session. Ibrahimović emphasized that the international human rights system faces serious challenges and that, in such circumstances, it is necessary to further strengthen joint actions to protect, improve, and enjoy human rights. He recalled that Montenegro supported the initiative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to establish a Global Alliance, which was also announced during the High-Level Segment of the Human Rights Council in February this year. Speaking about the importance of the new initiative, Ibrahimović said that the Alliance has the potential to become an effective platform for exchanging experiences and good practices, supporting the implementation of international obligations, and strengthening the universality of human rights, especially for connecting various actors at the national, regional, and global levels. He highlighted Montenegro's commitment to advancing equality, fighting discrimination, and better protecting vulnerable groups, especially women and girls, as well as creating conditions for the independent work of human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society organizations. 'The Global Alliance should be a platform not only for dialogue but also for concrete actions that bring real improvements to people's lives,' Ibrahimović stated.
