LEADER program and rural development presented in Herceg Novi
At the initiative of the Municipality of Herceg Novi and organized by the Agency for the Protection and Development of Orjen, an informational meeting was held with farmers from the Lustica and Orjen areas, dedicated to presenting the opportunities brought by the formation of the Local Action Group (LAG) Orjen–Lustica and the LEADER approach to rural development. During the event, the attendees were informed about the possibilities provided by the Ministry through the IPARD program and other support measures aimed at rural development, with a special focus on available models for financing investments in agriculture. The importance of uniting local actors through Local Action Groups was emphasized, as they are a key mechanism for accessing European and other international funds intended for rural areas. Particular attention was given to the process of forming the LAG Orjen–Lustica, a partnership of public, private, and civil sectors that enables joint planning and implementation of development projects, facilitating easier access to EU funds and other international donors. The LEADER approach is one of the main instruments of the European Union for rural development, involving funding of local initiatives through grants, supporting agriculture, livestock, agro-tourism, processing and promotion of local products, rural entrepreneurship, preservation of natural and cultural heritage, and improving the quality of life in rural communities. It was concluded that establishing the LAG Orjen–Lustica is a significant step toward sustainable rural development in Herceg Novi and more efficient utilization of funds available through European development funds.
