National Center for Personal Data Protection – 18 Years of Activity!

On July 10th, the National Center for Personal Data Protection (CNPDCP) marks 18 years of activity, during which the institution has consistently strengthened its role as the national supervisory authority in the field of personal data protection and as a guarantor of the fundamental right to privacy. Its entry into force on August 23rd represents a milestone in the evolution of the national personal data protection system and confirms the Republic of Moldova's firm commitment to align with European standards. The purpose of this Protocol is to modernize the international framework in the field of personal data protection to ensure a high level of protection for individuals' rights and freedoms, especially the right to privacy, in the context of technological developments and globalization of data flows. Additionally, on July 9, 2026, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted in the first reading the draft law on personal data protection processed for the purpose of preventing and combating crimes. In this regard, the institution actively participated in plenary sessions of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and activities under the Council of Europe, contributing to the exchange of experience and the development of a convergent approach at the European level in data protection. Throughout the reference period, cooperation relations were strengthened through the signing of 21 national agreements and 10 international agreements with relevant authorities in Europe, contributing to the exchange of best practices, strengthening institutional capacities, and ensuring more effective and coordinated intervention in the field of personal data protection.
