Border police in Nikšić prevented migrant smuggling from Sudan, Montenegrin citizen arrested

As part of ongoing activities aimed at combating migrant smuggling, dismantling smuggling networks across Montenegro, and enhancing border security, police officers from the Regional Border Police Center 'Center' yesterday detained a Montenegrin citizen suspected of migrant smuggling, following an order from the public prosecutor in Nikšić Basic Public Prosecutor's Office. Nikšić Security Department officers stopped a passenger vehicle driven by Z.B., a Montenegrin citizen, in Trubjela, Nikšić municipality. The suspect was handed over to Nikšić Border Police officers for further processing. He was detained on suspicion of committing crimes of illegal border crossing and people smuggling and was taken to the Nikšić Basic Public Prosecutor's Office with a criminal report. Border police officers will continue vigorous activities to suppress all forms of cross-border crime, strengthen border security, and fight illegal migration, in accordance with the highest European standards. As a future member of the European Union, Montenegro remains committed to protecting its borders, which will also form part of the EU's external border, thereby contributing fully to European security.
