National Conference "The New Era of Data Protection: GDPR Implementation"

On July 10, 2026, the National Center for Personal Data Protection (CNPDCP) organized the national conference "The New Era of Data Protection in the Republic of Moldova: GDPR Implementation," an event dedicated to the private sector and the preparation of data operators for applying the new regulatory framework in the field of personal data protection. 195/2024, by strengthening compliance with new legal obligations, clarifying the responsibilities of operators, authorized persons, and data protection officers, promoting European best practices, and facilitating experience exchange with experts from supervisory authorities of EU member states. Topics discussed included building the future of data protection in Moldova, obligations under the new law, exercising data subjects' rights, compliance mechanisms, the role of codes of conduct and certification, as well as investigation and enforcement mechanisms in European authorities. The debates benefited from contributions by renowned experts from the Council of Europe, the European Digital Rights Center (NOYB), and data protection authorities from Latvia, Malta, Italy, and Slovenia, who shared experiences from member states in GDPR implementation, best practices, and reliable solutions for effective legal compliance. The conference took place in the context of marking 18 years of activity of the National Center for Personal Data Protection, reaffirming the institution's commitment to continue strengthening the national data protection system and supporting operators through training, guidance, and cooperation activities. The event highlighted that effective implementation of the new legal framework for data protection is essential for developing a competitive business environment, strengthening trust in the digital economy, and facilitating cooperation with partners from the European Union.
