Gorčević in the European Parliament: Together we can make Montenegro's accession not only a national but also a European success

Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčevic participated today, at the invitation of the European Parliament rapporteur for Montenegro Marjan Šarec, in a roundtable in the European Parliament in Brussels, dedicated to the final phase of the accession process, the roadmap, and the next steps for Montenegro towards full EU membership. The roundtable also included Valentina Superti, director for the Western Balkans at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement (DG NEAR), Alva Fin, executive director of the European Liberal Forum, and Clive Rumbold, senior expert for the Western Balkans at the European External Action Service, providing an opportunity to exchange views on the political and reform-oriented completion of Montenegro's European path. She emphasized that working on Montenegro's EU accession Agreement is more than a technical step: it is a tangible signal that, after the longest pause in EU enlargement history, membership is finally moving from the realm of political ambition to institutional reality. This is a geopolitically important region exposed to various foreign influences, which is why the EU must be ready to act and to welcome Montenegro into the Union." Šarec also reminded that the European Union is primarily a peace project. Clive Rumbold stated that full alignment of Montenegro with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, its contribution to missions within the Common Security and Defense Policy, and support for Ukraine demonstrate its clear strategic commitment to the European path. Minister Gorčevic and Member of the European Parliament Šarec also participated in a working breakfast with journalists from over 20 media outlets from Brussels and EU member states, where they answered questions about Montenegro's accession to the European Union.
