Cyber Weather 2026 | OCTOBER
From no critical PHP vulnerabilities, targeted attacks on iPhone users, threats to refrigeration equipment and a hacked cryptocurrency exchange to scams involving Facebook Marketplace ads with fake links, new WhatsApp numbers, frozen pensions, a fake Datamed portal and a dinosaur festival: October in cyberspace. In October, scammers lured buyers with exceptionally attractive product offers, redirecting them to fake payment websites to steal payment card details. CERT.LV urges people to report fraud cases to their bank and the State Police, and to forward received fraudulent emails to cert@cert.lv, while suspicious text messages and links in WhatsApp should be forwarded to 23230444. CERT.LV identified and notified resource operators—including providers of essential and important services, critical infrastructure operators, and hosting and telecommunications service providers—whose resources contained vulnerable websites. TRM Labs linked the attack to the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor, pointing to similarities with previous cryptocurrency thefts, including the 2025 attack on the Bybit exchange. A major security incident was detected in Denmark’s Central Person Register (CPR): hackers gained access to the names, addresses and personal identification numbers of approximately 8.8 million people, the cybernews.com portal reported.
