Ibrahimović - Jorna: The competitiveness of the Montenegrin economy is important for preparing for EU membership

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, met today in Bled with Kerstin Jorna, Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs (DG GROW). The discussion focused on the economic aspects of Montenegro's preparations for EU membership, emphasizing strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of the Montenegrin economy and its better integration into the EU single market. Particular attention was given to developing digital infrastructure, economic diversification, and improving key transport infrastructure, including the continuation of the Bar Boljare highway and the Adriatic-Ionian corridor. They exchanged views on renewable energy potentials, as well as further development of the construction sector and its alignment with EU rules and standards. Ibrahimović and Jorna also discussed improving public procurement systems and market oversight in the context of aligning with EU regulations and standards, and preparing Montenegrin institutions and the economy for functioning within the single market. Ibrahimović emphasized that Montenegro will in the upcoming period pay special attention to strengthening economic competitiveness, digital and green transition, and creating a better business environment as key elements of readiness for EU accession.
