Data Sovereignty
Technology influences how our brain behaves and our inner world. An interview with JUDr. Ivana Janů, former chairwoman of ÚOOÚ
For a simple understanding, it can be stated that each of us has several layers around us, like equipment for adversity, which guarantee the following rights: inviolability of the person and their privacy, the right to human dignity, personal honor, good reputation, protection of one's name, inviolability of the home and interference in private and family life, and the guarantee of postal secrecy and message confidentiality transmitted by phone (including SMS), telegraph, or otherwise (e.g., a recent practice called Consent or Cost used for user access to internet content, which presents a binary model offering a choice between content with targeted advertising provided for free and content without advertising, where personal data are not processed but for a certain fee). It is essential to recognize the enormous benefits of technology for societal development and progress (internet, communication networks, artificial intelligence), but also the negative effects of this technological development and the dangers we face as users, increasingly immersed in a virtual world that diminishes our rational decision-making and dehumanizes us overall. A significant impetus for developing the above-mentioned protection issues was discussions within the Data Protection Officer Group in Brussels, where leaders of independent supervisory authorities regularly met, and joint EU positions for implementing European rules emerged. Although there are high expectations regarding artificial intelligence capabilities, there are also considerable concerns that AI, capable of self-learning, might, instead of serving, turn against people. An algorithm is an exact and unambiguous procedure with a finite number of steps that solves a specific type of task.
