Department for the Technical Inspection of Yachts and the Yacht Register

The Department for the Technical Inspection of Yachts and the Yacht Register conducts technical inspections of yachts, maintains the Montenegrin Yacht Register, and carries out procedures for registering yachts, changing their details, and deleting them from the Register, in accordance with applicable regulations. Under the Yacht Law, a yacht is a motor- or sail-powered vessel, which may have more than one hull, intended and equipped for extended stays at sea, leisure, sport, and recreation, with a length exceeding 7 metres, and used for personal purposes or commercial activities. The term “intended and equipped for extended stays at sea” means that the yacht has suitable facilities for accommodating people and enabling them to remain autonomously at sea for extended periods, primarily with regard to their safety. A yacht must be of an enclosed type with a superstructure and have suitable cabin and/or sleeping accommodation for all persons on board, a fixed VHF radio station, ventilation, lighting, drinking-water and wastewater tanks, a kitchen, sanitary facilities, and space for storing lifesaving equipment and personal belongings. To register a yacht in the Montenegrin Yacht Register, the following documentation must be submitted: an identity card or passport for inspection, in order to establish the identity of the individual, or a certificate of registration of the legal entity that owns the yacht. The yacht registration and technical inspection procedures are carried out in accordance with the Yacht Law and the relevant implementing regulations.
