Agency for Water and Local Communities Together for Cleaner Watercourses

On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Agency for Water of Montenegro, in cooperation with the project "Municipalities for the EU – Empowering Local Self-Governments in the European Integration Process," launched the initiative "Local Communities for Cleaner Waters," which includes activities in five Montenegrin municipalities – Nikšić, Podgorica, Berane, Kolašin, and Plav. The Agency for Water allocated 3,000 euros for each of the five participating municipalities to implement activities, with the initiative's activities to be completed by October 2. Tomić also recalled activities previously carried out by the Municipality in environmental protection, including closing the Mislov Do landfill and plans to build a Regional Recycling Center, emphasizing that the Municipality will continue supporting projects and activities that contribute to a cleaner and more organized Nikšić. The river Mrkošnica cleanup was supported by the President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Milica Lalatović Žižić, who highlighted the importance of such activities for educating citizens and raising awareness about environmental preservation. Director of the Nikšić Tourist Organization, Mitar Barać, stated that this location was chosen because it is a highly visited and attractive part of the city for both locals and tourists. The initiative "Local Communities for Cleaner Waters" aims to preserve and improve water conditions, reduce the risk of water-related damage and floods, and strengthen awareness of responsible water resource management.
