July 29, 2026 – Extension of sanctions regime targeting non-state armed groups and individuals in the Central African Republic and adoption of Resolution 2827 (2026) of July
On July 29, 2026, the sanctions regime against non-state armed groups and individuals operating in the Central African Republic was extended for another year. By unanimously adopting Resolution 2827 (2026) (to be published as document S/RES/2827(2026)), the 15-member body decided to extend measures outlined or expanded in paragraphs 2 and 4 of Resolution 2745 (2024) until July 31. Under these provisions, member states are required to take necessary measures to prevent direct or indirect supply, sale, or transfer of weapons and related materials of all kinds to armed groups and associated individuals operating in the country. This extension confirms the positions in paragraphs 1, 3, 5, and 7 to 12 of Resolution 2745 (2024), with a note that references to the Panel’s semi-annual and final reports should be updated by July 31. The sanctions regime was first established by Resolution 2127 (2013), during a period of widespread armed conflict, serious human rights violations, and severe political instability in the Central African Republic.
