NLnet joins FI-WARE consortium
FI-WARE began in 2011 with 40 million euros in funding from the European Commission, aiming to build the future internet stack. It has attracted contributors from over 30 European companies and institutions such as IBM, Nokia, SAP, Siemens, and Telefonica. As a grant organization with a unique background in engaging a global community of internet and web infrastructure innovators through its renowned open call, NLnet will contribute its expertise in organizing FI-WARE Calls for Ideas and Thematic Challenges. "We are approaching a stage where developers can start to meaningfully engage with FI-WARE technology," says Michiel Leenaars, NLnet's Strategy Director. NLnet played a key role in introducing the internet to Europe in the 1980s and now operates as a professional charity running international open calls and challenges to improve the internet since 1997. Its role includes liaising with open source developers and the hacker community to help recruit the best talent to contribute to FI-WARE.
