From Introduction to Implementation: Montenegro Establishes Mechanism for Working in the European IMI System

Faster resolution of citizens' and businesses' requests, fewer administrative barriers, and simpler cooperation with institutions of other European countries are practical benefits that Montenegro will achieve by using the Internal Market Information System (IMI). The Ministry of Economic Development and the project 'Center for Strategic-Legal Counseling for Montenegro' (PLAC), financed by the European Union, gathered representatives of competent institutions at the second workshop dedicated to working in the IMI system and the next steps in establishing a national mechanism for its use. Anđela Gajević, Director General of the Directorate for Small and Medium Enterprises at the Ministry of Economic Development, emphasized that the Ministry has the role of national coordinator for the IMI system and coordinates activities to establish cooperation between Montenegrin authorities, EU member states' institutions, and the European Commission via the IMI system. At the first workshop held in May, representatives of relevant institutions familiarized themselves with the functions of the IMI system, the obligations of national institutions, and practical aspects of administrative cooperation in various areas of the EU internal market. It is planned that the national coordinator will, among other things, coordinate the work of relevant institutions, support the use of the system, ensure its proper application at the national level, collaborate with the European Commission, and contribute to the efficient functioning of the system and timely processing by competent authorities. In addition to working in the IMI system, its modules, and the responsibilities of competent authorities, discussions also covered further strengthening of administrative capacities and opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange with EU member states.
