Recognizing and Supporting Gifted Students at the Center of Professional Development

The Institute for Education implemented the professional development program “Tools for Identifying and Monitoring Gifted Students – How to Make Working with This Group of Students Easier for Teachers,” aimed at enhancing teachers’ competencies in recognizing, monitoring, and supporting gifted students. During the interactive training, participants explored the characteristics of giftedness; the cognitive, emotional, and social traits of gifted children; and the objectives and procedures for identifying them. Particular emphasis was placed on using checklists and other tools to recognize giftedness, the role of teachers in this process, and ways to monitor gifted students’ development and progress. The program also covered approaches that help increase motivation to learn and develop independence and self-assessment skills, as well as the importance of support from school teams in creating conditions for every gifted child to fulfill their potential. The training was intended for primary and subject teachers, school principals, and professional support staff. Its implementation strengthens the capacity of educational institutions to identify giftedness more systematically and provide students with support in line with their abilities and needs.
