Heightened Vigilance Against Phone Frauds: CNPDCP and IGPF Inform Citizens About Personal Data Protection

On June 16, 2026, the National Center for Personal Data Protection (CNPDCP), in collaboration with the General Border Police Inspectorate (IGPF), launched the awareness campaign "Protect Personal Data: Be Vigilant Against Phone Frauds," held at the Leușeni Border Crossing Point. Participants were informed that recently, cases of unknown individuals contacting citizens via phone calls and requesting personal data under various pretexts have become more frequent. In most cases, scammers impersonate representatives of banks, law enforcement, public authorities, telecom companies, or other known entities, attempting to obtain information such as names, IDNP, home address, banking details, or other confidential data. Citizens were warned that providing such information to unauthorized persons can lead to fraudulent use of personal data, unauthorized access to bank accounts, financial security breaches, and other consequences affecting their rights and legitimate interests. Through interagency collaboration, CNPDCP and IGPF will continue to conduct awareness activities to promote responsible behavior and effective measures to prevent the misuse of personal information. As the national authority overseeing personal data processing, CNPDCP emphasizes the importance of each citizen's responsibility to ensure data protection, as the security and confidentiality of these data must be a priority.
