Sweden sends four scoop aircraft to France for forest fire fighting
Among other countries, France is heavily affected by forest fires and has requested support from other countries through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This means they are using joint EU resources, with the EU financing most of the preparedness and response costs, while Sweden acts as the host country. The preparedness is based on a system where local, regional, national, and EU levels cooperate. The strength of EU cooperation is that we use our resources efficiently and collaborate to help each other. The scoop aircraft are part of an extra safety net called rescEU, which involves EU-wide resources. Our crews train and carry out operations annually with other EU countries, enabling reinforcement within Europe to happen smoothly, safely, and effectively.
