Minister Ćulafić with DG Climate representatives: We have established the system and now the most important thing is to ensure its functionality

The Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić met with representatives of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), discussing Montenegro's progress in this area, alignment with EU legal frameworks, and priorities for the upcoming period. Minister Ćulafić emphasized that Montenegro has made significant strides in establishing a climate legislative and institutional framework, and that the process is now at an important turning point, shifting from system construction to full and practical implementation. This involves not only applying adopted legislation but also strengthening administration, expert personnel, and capacities to meet the demands of European integration and climate policies. The meeting also focused on establishing and completing the monitoring, reporting, verification, and accreditation (MRVA) system, adopting key sub-legal acts, and beginning practical application. Montenegro has previously adopted important strategic documents in climate policy and energy transition, while working on further alignment with the EU climate acquis and preparing roadmaps for its implementation. The European Commission remains available to provide expert assistance and support in areas crucial for continued alignment with EU policies.
