Enhanced Supervision in the Telecommunications Sector
In 2026, the Danish Safety and Security Agency (SAMSIK) will strengthen its supervision efforts in the telecommunications sector. This is primarily due to an increased threat landscape and the new security and emergency preparedness law in the telecommunications sector, which came into force on January 1. The law implements the EU NIS 2 Directive in the telecom domain and grants SAMSIK expanded supervisory and enforcement powers. The new law also means that more telecom providers will be subject to stricter security and emergency preparedness requirements as so-called essential telecom providers. In 2026, SAMSIK will oversee telecom providers subject to these enhanced requirements, focusing on areas such as information security management, risk management, and notification obligations. Additionally, based on risk and significance criteria, SAMSIK will conduct supervision of selected telecom providers in various areas. Alongside planned inspections, reactive supervision may also be carried out with telecom providers.
