Reading Literacy Development at the Focus of Training for Female Teachers
The Institute for Education organized training titled “Implementing PIRLS and PISA Reading Literacy Tasks in the Subject Curriculum for Montenegrin-Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian Language and Literature,” attended by 14 female teachers from primary and secondary schools. During the training, participants explored the characteristics of high-quality reading literacy tasks, analyzed examples based on literary and non-literary texts, and examined methods for creating and coding such tasks modeled on the international PIRLS and PISA assessments. Particular emphasis was placed on applying tasks based on literary texts from the subject curriculum, as well as using non-literary texts such as notices, advertisements, news reports, newspaper articles, tables, charts, and maps. Through practical work, participants created tasks and corresponding coding schemes, including tasks designed to encourage more complex cognitive processes. The aim of the training was to support teachers in systematically developing students’ reading literacy, while strengthening their ability to find, analyze, interpret, and evaluate information, as well as to think critically about content encountered in everyday life and through various media. We remind readers that registration for professional development programs organized by the Institute for Education is carried out through the new application of the “Electronic Portfolio” information system, which enables education professionals to register electronically for their desired training programs.
