Soil protection, as one of the most valuable natural resources, and combating its degradation were the focus of the fifth partnership meeting of the international ECOBASE project – Ecological Solutions for Combating Soil Degradation, held from 14 [date incomplete]. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the Center for Climate Change, Natural Resources and Energy at the University of Donja Gorica, while the project is being implemented under the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme. On behalf of the Ministry, Miroslav Cimbaljević, Director General of the Directorate for Agriculture, addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and joint action to preserve soil resources. “However, soil degradation, erosion and pollution, together with the increasingly pronounced effects of climate change, represent serious challenges that require a joint and coordinated response,” Cimbaljević said. Ivana Vojinović, Director of the Center for Climate Change, Natural Resources and Energy at the University of Donja Gorica, also addressed those present, while Ivica Bokovac, Vice President of the Agricultural Cluster of Montenegro, presented the Cluster’s activities and highlighted the importance of connecting institutions, experts and agricultural producers in preserving soil health. Through cooperation among universities, institutions and decision-makers, the project promotes the exchange of knowledge and good practices, the development of tools for monitoring soil conditions, and the improvement of sustainable soil-resource management.
