Solemn celebration of July 13th in Zagreb - Statehood Day of Montenegro and opening of the Montenegrin Archives exhibition on Montenegrin diplomacy

On July 13th - Montenegro's Statehood Day, the Montenegrin Embassy in Croatia organized a solemn reception in Zagreb, during which an exhibition by the Montenegrin Archives titled "Montenegrin Consular Missions 1880–1914" was opened. The event, held in the year marking a significant jubilee—twenty years since Montenegro's independence was restored—gathered representatives of Croatian institutions, diplomats, the Montenegrin community—including the "Montenegro" association from Zagreb and the National Community of Montenegrins in Croatia—as well as prominent figures from public and cultural life in Croatia. Addressing the officials, Montenegro's ambassador to Croatia, Dejan Vuković, recalled the historical roots and millennial origins of Montenegrin independence, emphasizing that Montenegro received formal legal confirmation of its sovereignty at the Berlin Congress on July 13. He particularly highlighted Montenegro's commitment to strengthening good-neighborly relations with Croatia, with which Montenegro is a true and reliable NATO ally, expressing gratitude to Croatian partners for their ongoing support on its European path. Considering the size and economic conditions of that era, the Principality and later Kingdom of Montenegro built an impressive and significant diplomatic network worldwide through the appointment of honorary consuls from the fields of business and arts," stated Mrvaljević, adding that the materials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' fonds are invaluable historical treasures, most of which are being published for the first time. The exhibition "Montenegrin Consular Missions 1880–1914," featuring valuable archival materials from the fonds of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Principality and Kingdom of Montenegro, represents an important segment of Montenegrin diplomatic history and statehood.
