Proposal for the Law on Regional Development: Greater Support for Less Developed Municipalities and a Stronger Institutional Framework

Minister Ernad Suljević today presented the key solutions of the Proposal for the Law on Regional Development at the session of the Committee for Economy, Finance, and Budget. By strengthening the institutional framework and directing support where it is most needed, we are laying the foundations for more balanced and sustainable regional development of Montenegro, said the minister. The minister emphasized that the law represents an important step forward in improving regional development policies through better coordination of activities, strengthening the institutional framework, and more precise definition of the obligations of all participants. He particularly highlighted that the Program will be focused exclusively on underdeveloped local self-government units, with the quality of proposed projects being a key criterion for funding allocation. Speaking about development priorities, he emphasized that regional development policy involves balanced development of all three regions, with additional and continuous support for the Northern region, and pointed out the importance of further improving interregional cooperation to ensure consistent application of legal solutions.
