Meeting Held with Tobacco Producers on Opportunities for Improvement and Legal Regulation of Tobacco Production in Montenegro

At the initiative of tobacco producers, a meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management and producers, discussing possibilities for improvement and legal regulation of tobacco production in Montenegro. Participants from the Ministry included State Secretary Krsto Rađenović, General Director of the Directorate for Agriculture Miroslav Cimbaljević, Head of the Inspection Affairs Directorate Ranko Bogavac, and Head of the Plant Production Directorate Amra Terzić. The meeting addressed challenges faced by tobacco producers, with a shared assessment that conditions need to be created for organized production in accordance with current legal regulations. It was particularly emphasized that tobacco production has a long-standing tradition and is a significant source of income for many farmers, making it necessary to find a sustainable model for its further development. One of the key conclusions was the formation of a working group that will soon hold talks with regional tobacco processors to create conditions for signing contracts with domestic tobacco producers. This would enable organized production in accordance with the provisions of the current Tobacco Law, ensuring safer market placement and long-term sustainability of this agricultural activity.
