World Food Day 2026: Innovation, Local Producers and the Women Who Feed Montenegro

This year, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the University of Donja Gorica, is organizing an event dedicated to the future of food, innovation, local agriculture, and the people whose work contributes to the sustainability of food systems. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet local farms, discover their products, and hear their stories of food production in the Local Producers Corner, while the Food Science and Innovation Corner will highlight the importance of research, food quality, and safety through engaging demonstrations and microscope observations. A special part of the event will be the exhibition “Women Who Feed Montenegro,” which presents, through photographs and personal stories, women from different parts of the country and their contributions to agriculture, the preservation of tradition, and the development of rural communities. At the CAP Info Corner, visitors will be able to learn about the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy, support opportunities for farmers, and prospects for the development of agriculture and rural areas as Montenegro advances toward European integration. The youngest visitors will have their own Children’s Corner, featuring interactive educational activities, games, and experiments designed to creatively introduce them to the importance of food, agriculture, and the preservation of natural resources. This year’s World Food Day celebration offers an opportunity for agricultural producers, institutional representatives, members of the academic community, and citizens to come together around a shared message: the future of food is built by connecting the knowledge, innovation, and experience of the people who produce it.
