Kordić Meets Cyprus Tourism Minister: Sustainable Tourism, Investments and Air Connectivity at the Heart of Future Cooperation
Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić met with Cyprus Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis to discuss opportunities for improving bilateral cooperation in tourism, with a particular focus on sustainable development, attracting investment and enhancing air connectivity. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the high-level Interregional Forum on Tourism between Europe and Asia, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with the United Nations World Tourism Organization, whose Commission for Europe it chairs. Koumis presented Cyprus’s activities in developing a new tourism development strategy focused on the green and digital transitions, noting that these areas offer significant scope for cooperation and the exchange of experience between the two countries. The meeting also addressed the “Bridging Destinations” concept, which Kordić presented as an initiative aimed at connecting destinations and creating a joint tourism offering, with the goal of increasing their visibility and competitiveness in distant markets. The interlocutors agreed that the active involvement of the private sector and improved air connectivity—both between Montenegro and Cyprus and with distant source markets—are particularly important for implementing such initiatives. Both sides expressed interest in further institutional cooperation, including the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation in the coming period, which would provide a basis for more concrete joint activities in tourism.
