Olive Growers: Conduct Chemical Treatment Against Olive Fruit Fly

An inspection of traps for controlling the olive fruit fly population in the areas of Bar and Ulcinj (large olive groves area – Valdanos) was conducted on 10.09.2026. Simultaneously, fruits were sampled from each site for laboratory examination. The fly population has increased compared to the previous inspection, especially in McPhail traps at the Bar 3 site, while captures on yellow sticky traps remain low or nonexistent. Laboratory analysis of the fruits showed active infestation at four sites: Bar 3 - 6.6% (L2), Valdanos 1 - 3.3% (L3), Valdanos 2 - 3.3% (larvae), and Valdanos 4 - 3.3% (larvae). Dead larvae and shriveled fruits were observed at nearly all sites. Due to the increased fly population and upcoming weather changes, producers with elevated fly counts in McPhail traps are advised to carry out chemical treatments using a deltamethrin-based product.
