Montenegro successfully implemented Sectoral Budget Support Program for Energy Efficiency – EU paid the final tranche of 3 million euros

Montenegro successfully implemented the Sectoral Budget Support Program for Energy Efficiency, fulfilling all planned obligations and qualifying for the final tranche payment of 3 million euros. This completes the European Union's financial support of 30 million euros aimed at strengthening energy sector resilience and mitigating the effects of the energy crisis. The final payment was approved based on achieved results and confirms the successful implementation of reform activities in the energy sector, as well as Montenegro's continued commitment to its European integration obligations. The program was carried out through coordinated efforts of relevant institutions and partnership with the European Union, with funds directed towards measures that directly improve energy security, increase energy efficiency, and support citizens during the energy crisis. Of the total 30 million euros, 8.5 million euros were allocated for one-time financial support to pensioners and beneficiaries of material assistance, 13 million euros for energy efficiency improvement measures, 7.5 million euros for establishing and maintaining mandatory oil reserves, and 1 million euros for implementing the 'day-ahead' electricity market, a key step in further integrating Montenegro's energy market with Europe. The achieved results contribute to greater national energy security, more efficient energy use, environmental protection, and improved quality of life for citizens, while continuing to align the domestic energy sector with EU standards.
