New Regulation on Maximum Allowed Levels of Contaminants in Food
The Official Gazette of Montenegro No. 98/2026 published the Regulation on maximum permitted levels of contaminants in food, which comes into force on the 17th. The regulation stipulates the maximum allowable quantities of contaminants in food, further enhancing consumer health protection and aligning national legislation with European Union legal standards. This regulation transposes the EU Regulation (EU) 2023/915, along with all its amendments and supplements, establishing maximum permitted levels of various contaminants in food, including cadmium, perchlorate, deoxynivalenol, T-2 and HT-2 toxins, nickel, inorganic arsenic, and other relevant contaminants. By adopting this regulation, Montenegro continues to harmonize its national legislation with EU food safety standards and strengthens the consumer protection system.
