Tiso Welcomes the Closure of Chapter 19: Continued Strong Support for Reforms and Social Dialogue in Montenegro
Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue Naida Nišić today welcomed Caroline Tissot, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, and Nina Krgović, the International Labour Organization’s National Coordinator, to her office. Tissot congratulated the Ministry and the Government of Montenegro on their achievement and the provisional closure of Chapter 19 – Social Policy and Employment, emphasizing that this is an important step on the path to European integration. The meeting highlighted that closing this chapter confirms Montenegro’s commitment to aligning its national legislation and practices with the high standards of the European Union and the International Labour Organization. Minister Nišić expressed gratitude to the ILO for its continuous professional and technical support, which was of exceptional importance in implementing key reforms in the areas of labour and social policy. “The ILO’s support has been invaluable to us in this process, and our shared goal remains the creation of a fairer and more stable labour market for all citizens of Montenegro,” Minister Nišić said. The meeting confirmed both sides’ readiness for further intensive cooperation, with a particular focus on implementing the Decent Work Country Programme, further strengthening the capacity of the labour inspectorate, promoting formal employment, and improving tripartite dialogue among the Government, trade unions, and employers.
