Representatives of the Ministry of Interior Improved Knowledge on Smart Tachographs and Control
More efficient control of professional drivers and carriers, proper use of smart tachographs, and consistent application of European rules were the focus of a three-day training completed by 18 representatives of the Ministry of Interior, aimed at improving traffic safety. The three-day training on working hours of professional drivers, EU requirements, smart tachographs, and supervision was organized within the project "Technical Assistance for Strengthening Capacities and Improving Legislation, Performance, and Efficiency in the Transport Sector in Montenegro," in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and with the support of the European Union. Acting Director General of the Directorate for Road Traffic and Motor Vehicles in the Ministry of Transport Nikola Veljović stated that significant work has been done to align domestic legislation with EU legislation, but now full implementation is necessary. "We have adopted dozens of laws and nearly a hundred subordinate acts related to social legislation, tachographs, road transport, and other areas," he emphasized. He added that the adopted regulations should be implemented in practice and that staff should be further trained. The training also serves to introduce and, in some cases, renew the knowledge of inspectors and police officers involved in the control of commercial transport. New obligations for drivers and carriers have been introduced recently, and the workshop is a good opportunity to present these novelties to participants. During the theoretical part, participants were familiarized with the EU regulatory framework concerning driving time and rest periods for professional drivers, rules related to smart tachographs, data use and processing from tachographs, and techniques for supervision and control.
