Police in Pljevlja locate and detain person suspected of committing a criminal offense related to drug abuse in Serbia; criminal proceedings will be conducted in Montenegro
Officials of the Pljevlja Department of Security, acting on the order of the State Prosecutor's Office in the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje, located and detained E.S. (39) from Pljevlja, a Montenegrin citizen. In this specific case, the action was carried out within the framework of international legal assistance in criminal matters, upon the request of competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia for the transfer of criminal prosecution by Montenegrin authorities. Subsequently, the criminal procedure for the criminal offense suspected of E.S., which was committed in Serbia, will be conducted before the competent judicial authorities in Montenegro. In the territory of Serbia, he committed the criminal offense of unauthorized production, possession, and trafficking of narcotics by illegally transporting about 20 kilograms of marijuana from Montenegro to Serbia on 19.02.2024, for further sale, stored in multiple vacuum-sealed packages and hidden in a specially made compartment in the rear or under the seat of the vehicle he was driving. The actions of the Pljevlja Police Department, in coordination and upon the order of the competent prosecutor's office, confirm the importance of effective international police and judicial cooperation in combating cross-border crime. The police department will continue to, in cooperation with partner services and competent judicial authorities, timely undertake activities aimed at identifying, locating, detaining, and prosecuting perpetrators of criminal acts.
