NLnet appoints Review Committee IHF

In December 2016, the Internet Hardening Fund received a subsidy from the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs, in recognition of a prior motion in the Netherlands parliament by representative Kees Verhoeven. To meet the formal requirements of the subsidy, NLnet established an independent Review Committee ('Toetsingscommissie') composed of three experts from the internet and open source sectors, academia, and the public sector. The committee does not receive remuneration, and its members have no other financial interests with the Internet Hardening Fund or links to NLnet Foundation, the organization behind the fund. The Review Committee evaluates the selection process for the Internet Hardening Fund, independently validating that all selected projects are eligible. If a project is deemed ineligible for technical reasons, NLnet may fund it from its own private budget or another similar fund. The fund primarily supports high-end open source encryption software used in infrastructure and the development and strengthening of internet and web standards related to encryption.
