Professional Development in Student Assessment
The Institute for Education organized the training course “Assessment as a Means of Supporting Student Development and Improving Teaching and Learning at School,” attended by 15 primary school teachers. The training was delivered by trainers Bojana Nenezić and Branka Vujičić, with the aim of empowering teachers to apply modern assessment approaches that support student development, improve the quality of teaching and learning, and create a stimulating school environment. During the training, particular attention was paid to understanding assessment objectives, criteria, and standards; aligning learning outcomes with achievement indicators; and applying various techniques and instruments for monitoring and assessing student progress. A special segment focused on designing ways to verify and assess achievement in different primary school grades, including the development of specific tasks and instruments such as rubrics, checklists, and portfolios, with an emphasis on recognizing and evaluating students’ strengths. An important aspect of the program was the pedagogy of success, namely developing an approach in which assessment is not only a means of evaluating achievement but also a support for learning, self-assessment, and the progress of every student. The training was conducted as part of the professional development program for teachers, and its content was aimed at improving everyday teaching practice and developing an assessment culture that encourages learning and contributes to the realization of educational opportunities.
