Border police officers in ongoing activities identified a person suspected of transporting and discarding 185.5 kg of tobacco near Lake Skadar
Border police officers from the Sector of Border Police – Border Station I Podgorica, continuing measures to clarify the event from September 18, 2026, when they seized 185.5 kilograms of cut tobacco worth around 13,000 euros in Šarova Topola, identified I.K. (28) from Zeta as the person who was transporting and discarding the tobacco during a chase. They informed the competent state prosecutor in the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica. Following the prosecutor's order, officers from Border Station I Podgorica filed criminal charges against I.K. for suspected smuggling. In the evening hours near Lake Skadar, in Šarova Topola, he was driving a white, unregistered VW Golf II with tobacco previously smuggled from Albania, intended for illegal sale. When he noticed a police vehicle signaling him to stop, he ignored the signals, increased speed, and fled. No person was found in or near the vehicle, but nearby, 13 large black PVC bags, some torn, were found containing 371 smaller white paper packages, each weighing about 0.5 kg, totaling 185.5 kg of cut tobacco, valued at approximately 13,000 euros.
