Montenegro Records Its First Registered Unemployment Rate Below 8%

For the first time in Montenegro's history, the registered unemployment rate has fallen below 8%, confirming ongoing positive trends in the labor market and the results of measures implemented by the Montenegrin government in the areas of economy, employment, and living standards. Although the north still has the highest unemployment rate, this region is the focus of development policies and employment programs aimed at encouraging investments, creating new jobs, and promoting more balanced regional development. A new cycle of programs has been launched to increase employability and integrate unemployed persons into the labor market through support for employment with employers, training and work experience programs, self-employment support, and special programs for youth, women, the long-term unemployed, social welfare beneficiaries, and others needing additional employment assistance. At the same time, services at the Employment Agency have been improved through digitalization, cooperation with employers and dialogue with the economy and local communities has been intensified, resulting in a better match between labor supply and market needs. The historically lowest registered unemployment rate confirms that responsible public policies, institutional cooperation, and continuous investment in active employment measures yield visible and measurable results. The Montenegrin government will continue to implement policies, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Dialogue and the Employment Agency, that promote the creation of new jobs, increase employment, and provide quality opportunities for all citizens, with a special focus on youth and the northern region of the country.
