Energy Sector Nears Closure of Chapter 15: Montenegro Meets European Standards

Montenegro has met the conditions for the provisional closure of Chapter 15 – Energy and has taken another important step on its path to EU membership. The Government of Montenegro today adopted an updated Negotiating Position for Chapter 15, aligned with the European Commission, creating conditions for this chapter to be temporarily closed at one of the upcoming Intergovernmental Conferences with the European Union. The updated Negotiating Position confirms Montenegro's fulfillment of final criteria and progress in aligning the energy sector with EU legal standards. The provisional closure of Chapter 15 is not just another step in the negotiation process; it is a confirmation that significant progress has been made and that the energy sector is being fully aligned with European standards and rules,” said Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović. Minister Šahmanović emphasized that closing the chapter represents confirmation of implemented reforms, but also an obligation to continue with changes important for citizens and the economy. The provisional closure of Chapter 15 will further confirm Montenegro's progress on its European path and that energy is being built as one of the key pillars of the country's future development. The official closure is expected on November 19 in Brussels.
