Adopted Proposal for Establishing an Efficient Mechanism for Reviewing Foreign Direct Investments in Montenegro

The government adopted a proposal to establish an efficient mechanism for reviewing foreign direct investments in Montenegro, laying the foundation for the first systematic law in this area, the Law on Review of Foreign Investments. The adoption of this proposal represents an important step in strengthening Montenegro's economic security and confirms the state's commitment to building a stable and competitive framework for attracting investments, in accordance with European standards. "This mechanism enhances legal security and establishes a transparent system that protects the strategic interests of the state, while maintaining Montenegro's openness to quality foreign investments," said the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development. The law stipulates that the Ministry of Economic Development will be the central authority responsible for reviewing foreign investments and the contact point for cooperation with the EU, along with the formation of a Review Council that provides opinions during the process. The final decision is made by the Government, based on the proposal of the Ministry and the opinion of the Council.
