Commission for Missing Persons of the Government of Montenegro: Press Release
In July 2026, the Commission for Missing Persons of the Government of Montenegro handed over the remains of Klapuh Hasan to the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Institute will organize the final identification process to ensure that the remains are returned to the family members for a dignified farewell and burial. On the old Muslim cemetery in Voja Deretića street in Nikšić, as well as through anthropological examination of skeletal remains at the Forensic Center of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, and based on DNA analysis results from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) laboratory in The Hague, as well as anthropological reports, the preliminary identification of Klapuh Hasan, the third member of the Klapuh family, has been confirmed. The remains of previously preliminarily identified family members Ferida and Sene Klapuh were also handed over to the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the 12th. The Commission for Missing Persons of the Government of Montenegro expresses gratitude to all institutions, experts from the International Commission on Missing Persons, civil society, media, and other participants for their dedication and cooperation in clarifying the fate of missing persons and supporting the families of victims from armed conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.
