Institute for Education Celebrated International Literacy Day: Schools Across Montenegro Read Together

In September, the Institute for Education marked the occasion with a series of activities dedicated to the importance of literacy, reading, and sharing personal and professional experiences. Many elementary and high schools across Montenegro joined the celebration. This year's event was held under the slogan "Literacy for Life, School, and Future," a national initiative to dedicate the third school hour in all schools in Montenegro to 15-minute synchronized reading. Employees of the Institute also participated in this initiative, symbolically following the rhythm of elementary and high schools at 9:25 AM, the start of the third school hour, to show support. Through the activity "Tree of Literacy," staff members recorded messages about what literacy means to them in modern society, the types of literacy they recognize, and how they view it from personal and professional perspectives, as well as within the context of their teaching subjects. This includes understanding and interpreting what is read, evaluating information, distinguishing reliable from unreliable sources, critical thinking, and responsible use of various communication forms. Therefore, reading literacy plays a vital role in education, contributing to the development of comprehension and analysis skills, argumentative expression, connecting information, and fostering a critical attitude towards everyday content.
